In an academic survey conducted by Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, National University of Singapore (NUS) has for the first time established itself as one of the top 20 universities in the world by repute.
The list selects the top 200 institutions in the world, as determined by academics to have the finest reputations for research and teaching. It received 420,204 votes from a record-breaking 29,606 academics across 159 nations. There were a total of 211 universities on the list, representing 32 different nations, with some of them competing for the same rankings.
National University of Singapore (NUS) has moved up to position 19 from its previous 24th position where it spent four years. This places the university ahead of other esteemed colleges and universities including Cornell University and Johns Hopkins University in the United States, which were ranked 20th and 23rd, respectively.
Stanford University, the University of Oxford, and the University of Cambridge make out the top five, with Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology maintaining the top two positions. Two institutions from Asia made the top 10. Nineth place went to Tsinghua University in China, and tenth place went to University of Tokyo in Japan.
