Elon University has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing the re-accreditation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). President Connie Ledoux Book received confirmation of the reaffirmation, with the board of trustees voting to uphold Elon’s institutional accreditation without recommendations or revisions.
This reaffirmation underscores Elon’s commitment to providing the nation’s best environment for engaged learning and high-impact practices. President Book expressed pride in the university’s leadership position, where academic excellence and student success take center stage.
SACSCOC, the regional accrediting body for higher education institutions in the southern states, mandates a comprehensive review every 10 years. Elon underwent a thorough evaluation of its compliance with accreditation Core Requirements and Standards. The positive outcome is particularly noteworthy as it reflects Elon’s dedication to continuous improvement since its last re-accreditation in 2013.
The review included a meticulous site visit in March, where the reaffirmation committee praised Elon’s academic programs, campus facilities, financial stability, and community of students, faculty, and staff. The committee also assessed Elon’s proposed five-year Quality Enhancement Plan, “Data Nexus,” designed to equip graduates with an understanding of the role of data and data analysis in society.
The reaccreditation process involved the collaborative efforts of faculty and staff across the university, contributing volumes of information to SACSCOC during the examination.
Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Rebecca Kohn highlighted the commitment of faculty and staff, emphasizing their crucial role in the Elon experience. The successful reaccreditation further strengthens Elon’s reputation for providing quality education, with national recognition, including being ranked #1 for undergraduate teaching excellence by U.S. News & World Report for three consecutive years.
SACSCOC’s accreditation signifies Elon’s adherence to shared values and practices, marking a notable achievement for the university in maintaining high standards in education across the Southern states.
