National Thermal Power Corporation Limited, (NTPC), India’s largest power producer, announced a four-week-long empowerment program in Assam, to train 40 underprivileged and minor girls in various skills. NTPC launched Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) for the first time in 2018, and to date, the power major is responsible for conducting this program.

Subrata Mandal, NTPC Executive Director of Bongaigaon Plant, said “This is for the first time in Assam, NTPC is conducting a GEM programme to encourage underprivileged girls.”

He also shared, “We have shortlisted 40 girls of age group 10-12 years. This exercise has come a long way right from the baseline survey, medical examination, registration process and finally at this campus.” This program by NTPC indicates its generous attitude towards empowering girls.
