The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) is happy to announce Kelly Pisek’s appointment as the new Director of Education and Secretary to the Board, effective January 1. Pisek’s new position will start on January 1st, 2024.

“The appointment of Kelly as our next Director is a great blessing,” stated Sue Barnett, the Chair of the Board of Trustees. Her dedication to learning and meeting the needs of our faculty, staff, and community is clearly visible. She is well regarded for her unwavering commitment to equity, achievement, and placing students at the center of all decision-making. We are eager to collaborate for the good of our whole academic community.

Pisek, who joins the position after serving as a member of the senior leadership team for 11 years, has over 30 years of experience with the DSBN. As the Niagara Region’s superintendent of education, she oversaw the support of administrators in more than 40 schools in guiding student achievement and enhancing wellbeing. She brings to the role a depth of leadership and educational experience.

Pisek, who was appointed director during the Board meeting last night, stated, “I am excited to begin this new role and am immensely proud to work for the District School Board of Niagara.” “I am excited to work in tandem with the Senior Leadership group, the Trustees, and every member of the staff, student body, and family that make up our school communities.

I am incredibly grateful to our community partners and take tremendous pleasure in what we accomplish and where we are going. In the classroom and beyond, I pledge my devotion to the people we serve.

Warren Hoshizaki, who has served as Ontario’s director of education for the longest, is succeeded by Pisek. After 40 years in the field of education, 18 of which he served as the DSBN’s director of education, Hoshizaki announced his retirement earlier this year and is leaving the Board. “Working with Warren and being a part of the amazing accomplishments made during his tenure makes me feel so honored,” Pisek remarked.

“He has been an incredible mentor, and I will keep leading the Board with the common objective of prioritizing students at all times.”

“Kelly provides consistency to the significant work of our Board, and the DSBN’s dedication to fostering fair educational opportunities and experiences where each person’s individuality is respected and appreciated will continue under her direction. Together, we’re excited to co-create our future,” Barnett remarked.
