The University of New Brunswick has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2025, marking the institution’s 12th year in this distinction. This is proof that UNB really cares about its employees’ professional and personal development from early careers to retirement.

An annual competition hosted by The Globe and Mail, Canada’s Top 100 Employers is celebrating its 25th anniversary year. The awards identify companies around the country that stand above the rest in their development of exceptional human resources programs as well as progressive workplace policies. According to Kristina Leung, managing editor for the project, the top employers are those who innovate according to the changing demands of the workforce, showing benefits and policies that really make sense in the diverse changing Canada society.

According to Shawn Quinlan, associate vice-president of people and culture, “we’re not merely interested in best practices but constantly looking at innovative and new ways, given the diversity and the continuum of need in the UNB community,” Quinlan emphasized. It has thus enabled it to emerge as one of the best universities for employment from among all other institutions in terms of higher education.

Key highlights of UNB’s employee programs include fertility support benefits, maternity and parental leave top-ups, and the option to phase in a return to work. The university also offers on-site childcare at its Fredericton campus. To help employees plan for the future, UNB provides retirement planning assistance, contributions to a shared-risk pension plan, and ongoing support for retirees through the UNB Retired Employees Association.

The work environment received an A+ rating, as well as flexible work options, which include hybrid schedules, telecommuting, and summer hours. Employees are also supported with access to public transportation, electric vehicle charging stations, fitness facilities, and other on-campus amenities.

UNB continues to modernize in training and further development, providing inhouse programs, subsidies on accreditation, and up to a 100% tuition coverage for employees’ schooling. UNB has pledged to improve its work climate, and the university has continued seeking ways to meet the changing needs of their employees.
