UNESCO Donates ICT Equipment to Ngongongare Primary School as a Gainer for Enhanced Digital Learning

UNESCO

UNESCO has enabled the potential at Ngongongare Primary School with the provision of facilitating ICT equipment. The donation entailed three personal computers, three Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), and a printer amongst other equipment. This is a quite prominent stride towards bridging the gap in terms of digital literacy and technology gap for students and the teaching fraternity at the learning institution.

With this in mind, the handover was overseen by Ms. Faith Shayo, the Head of the Education Sector at the UNESCO Dar es Salaam Office, where she restated the involvement of the organization towards inclusive and fair quality education in Tanzania. The handover function comes in the wake of a previous visit by UNESCO staff members on 30th May, 2024, where they engaged in environmental conservation activities, among them tree planting to spur the young minds. The visit exposed urgent needs for quality ICT, so something has to be done.

The offer of this technology corresponds well with UNESCO’s mission and meets the Tanzanian Government’s National ICT Policy for Basic Education, which is highly expected to facilitate better learning outcomes through effective digital integration. Ngongongare Primary School is a model for environmental education within the Arusha Meru Aspiring Geopark; therefore, the new ICT equipment will enable the school to extend its curriculum and allow learners to acquire skills essential for the information age.

Students and teachers were more than eager to embrace the new resources, promising to add richness to their learning experience and new opportunities in academia and personal growth. In her speech, Ms Tatu Ramadhani, Head Teacher of Ngongongare Primary School, expressed deep appreciation for UNESCO’s efforts. She assured that the equipment would be maintained and utilized well for enhanced teaching and learning.

She further recommended to UNESCO that it should continue persuading other development partners in education to make further improvements on the progress of the school, especially through better facilitation of a fully dedicated computer laboratory in an effort to include more ICT integration. This step not only underlines UNESCO’s continued involvement as one of the key players in promoting objectives for education in Tanzania but also marks a joint step toward illuminating hope for the future of tomorrow’s generations.
