According to a press release from the US Mission in Turkey quoting the 2022 Open Doors Report, the number of Turkish students in the United States climbed by 4.4 percent over the previous year, the biggest growth in more than 10 years.
The Institute of International Education (IIE) reports, 8.467 Turkish students were registered at US higher education institutions for the academic year 2021–2022, up from 8.109 the year before.
With 52 percent of all international students studying in the US, China and India continue to be the top two countries of origin. Chinese students made up 31% of the total enrollment, while Indian students made up 21% of all foreign students in the US. However, the number of overseas students attending US colleges decreased by 15% in the 2020–21 academic year, from 1,075,496 to 914,095.
International students frequently choose Turkey as their destination for higher education. Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, the minister of culture and tourism, reported earlier this year that more than 165,000 foreign students from 171 nations had applied for “Türkiye Scholarships,” which are sponsored by the Turkish government.
