This fall, Georgian College is launching an innovative micro-credential designed to empower educators to confidently integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their classrooms. The course, titled Artificial Intelligence for Educators, is part of Georgian’s Continuing Education offerings for fall 2024 and winter 2025, with registration now open.

Rob Smith, Manager of Continuing Education and Corporate Training at Georgian College, describes the micro-credential as a blend of self-paced learning and engaging live discussions. The six-week, fully online program is structured to accommodate educators at all levels of AI familiarity, from beginners to those already incorporating AI into their teaching.

The course includes 18 hours of learning, divided into 12 hours of asynchronous study and six one-hour live sessions. These interactive sessions provide a platform for participants to engage in discussions, share perspectives, and tackle challenges related to AI in education.

Key topics covered in the micro-credential include AI fundamentals, practical AI tools for teachers and students, adaptive learning technologies, and ethical considerations. The program is designed to help educators understand AI’s potential and integrate it into their teaching strategies effectively.

“As a leader in immersive learning, Georgian is excited to offer this micro-credential, which allows educators to explore AI in a supportive, engaging environment,” said Rob Smith. “We’ve combined flexible self-paced learning with the personal touch of live online sessions to create a unique and accessible learning experience.”

Artificial Intelligence for Educators runs from October 21 to December 6, 2024. Registration for this course, along with other Continuing Education programs, is available at GeorgianCollege.ca/coned. The course is tailored for all educators, whether they are new to AI, skeptical, or already experienced with the technology.
