Key Background:

Confederation College is pleased to announce the introduction of a funded fast-track Practical Nursing Program across its campuses in Thunder Bay, Dryden, Kenora, Fort Frances, Marathon, and Longlac. The initiative, supported by the Ministry of Health, offers eligible students’ full coverage for tuition, fees, uniforms, textbooks, and some travel expenses related to lab sessions. This program aims to provide increased access to nursing education for those seeking a rewarding career in healthcare.

The program is designed for Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with an application deadline of March 7, 2025. Classes will begin on March 10, 2025, and follow an accelerated format that allows students to complete the typical two-year program in just 16 months, graduating in June 2026. This fast-track option combines classroom learning with hands-on training, equipping students to provide expert nursing care in diverse healthcare settings.

“This new funding removes many of the financial barriers for students interested in pursuing a nursing career,” said Michelle Salo, President of Confederation College. “We are proud to offer this opportunity to learners throughout Northwestern Ontario and to support the province’s efforts to strengthen its healthcare system.”

Carol Cline, Dean of Workforce Development, emphasized that the initiative not only makes nursing education more accessible but also addresses the urgent need for skilled healthcare professionals in the region. The program will provide students with the practical skills and knowledge needed for real-world healthcare environments, while significantly reducing the financial burden traditionally associated with nursing education. With its focus on accessibility and community impact, this program offers an important opportunity for individuals looking to enter the nursing profession, while contributing to the ongoing development of the healthcare workforce in Ontario.
