Conestoga’s School of Business Honored at PIEoneer Awards for Innovation in Global Education

Conestoga

Conestoga College’s School of Business received prominent recognition at the PIEoneer Awards, where innovation and achievement in global education were being celebrated. The college submitted its first ever nominations to this international contest, which is promoted by PIE, a UK-based organization and prominent international education sector lobbyist. Among the institutions that received recognition at the London gala on September 13, Conestoga was the only Canadian one to be recognized.

Colorado State University won the Business School of the Year award. Highly Commended was the School of Business in the same category; its executive dean Michelle Grimes is deeply proud over the international recognition for the college: “This award is the acknowledgment of our faculty and staff’s dedication to quality, industry-focused business education and the fostering of a student-centered learning environment.”. She expressed, “We are gratified to have been nominated and chosen for this recognition among so many worthy global business schools.”

Business has always been a favorite area of study among international students, and the award category reflects the excellent and innovative work that business schools are undertaking to serve those learners. The nomination by Conestoga emphasized commitment to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), which has been a strong catalyst for innovation at school. Since becoming a signatory back in 2020, Conestoga took it up a notch by achieving champion status and incorporating concepts of sustainability across more than 70% of programming in 2023.

The college has significantly invested in accessible educational practices. This involves a high commitment to open educational resources (OER), ensuring that students have free access to high-quality materials; teaching case research that emphasizes real-world applications; and active participation in Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). In 2023, six business faculty members were active in COIL projects, connecting Conestoga students with peers from international partner institutions thereby advancing cross-cultural competencies and a global mindset.

Also, Conestoga was shortlisted for the Employability International Impact Award at the PIEoneer Awards. The School of Business is one of the most superior institutions in Ontario with numerous pathways that lead students into specialization or business further studies full-time and part-time. The college is proud of preparing graduates as presenters for the dynamic business world by equipping them with expertise and skills needed to become so.
