Chhattisgarh has commenced its journey towards aligning with the National Education Policy by initiating the preparatory phases of textbook development and curriculum reform for school students, adhering to NCERT guidelines. The state is pioneering this effort with the goal of implementing curriculum changes for Classes 1-3 and 6 by the forthcoming academic session.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has urged officials to accelerate the process to ensure the effective implementation of the national education policy in Chhattisgarh. In response, CM Sai has convened a two-day state-level orientation workshop, starting Tuesday, aimed at discussing and revising school textbooks to comply with the new education policy. This workshop, organized by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), will focus on updating textbooks for grades 1-3 and 6 for the upcoming year.
During the workshop, School Education Secretary Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi emphasized the importance of teaching students in their local languages from the foundational stage. He highlighted that the revised textbooks will be designed to offer a practical approach to learning, with enhancements guided by NCERT’s expertise. Chhattisgarh is also working towards incorporating 20 languages into textbooks, making them more engaging and locally relevant.
In a virtual address, Professor Ranjana Arora, Head of the Curriculum Department at NCERT New Delhi, commended Chhattisgarh for being the first state to start the textbook creation process in collaboration with NCERT. She noted that SCERT experts will integrate local languages, dialects, and cultural characteristics into the curriculum, ensuring a meaningful and contextually appropriate educational experience.
