Key background:

Brock University has earned a spot among Hamilton-Niagara’s Top Employers for 2025, marking the seventh consecutive year the institution has received this prestigious recognition. Organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, this annual competition highlights local organizations that provide exceptional work environments. The winners were announced in a feature published by The Hamilton Spectator.

Brock President and Vice-Chancellor, Lesley Rigg, attributes the university’s continued success to the dedication of its faculty, staff, and librarians. She emphasizes their crucial role in creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere that fosters a world-class educational experience while driving transformative change both on campus and in the community. “From the moment I arrived at Brock, it was clear that the University has a unique and supportive environment,” said Rigg. “This recognition underscores our reputation as an outstanding place to work, where employees collaborate to achieve shared goals of student success and research excellence.”

Employers in the competition are evaluated on eight criteria, including workplace culture, benefits, training opportunities, and community involvement. Brock University stood out for offering flexible work options, generous paid time off, and comprehensive benefits, including a maternity leave top-up. The university also provides tuition subsidies for employees and their dependents, along with extensive leadership and career development programs. Amanda Villella, Acting Associate Vice-President of People and Culture, highlighted the University’s commitment to fostering a supportive campus culture. “We are dedicated to helping our employees grow both personally and professionally while advancing Brock’s strategic goals,” she said. Additionally, Villella noted the university’s collaborative efforts in promoting decolonization and indigenization on campus, along with its ongoing initiatives to meet the evolving needs of both employees and students.
