HKATG Offers Its Backing to PolyU

HKATG

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Hong Kong Aerospace Technology Group (HKATG) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to explore collaboration opportunities in satellite navigation, communication, remote sensing, and payload development. As part of the collaboration, HKATG will provide PolyU with optical remote sensing and synthetic aperture radar observation data in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. It will also offer low-Earth orbit satellite payload space, payload testing, and measurement and control services for research and education purposes.

HKATG has also donated the naming rights of a multispectral optical remote sensing satellite to PolyU, with an estimated value of HK$20 million, including data and equipment. This satellite is anticipated to launch in 2024 and will contribute to research in areas such as carbon neutrality, tree health monitoring, land cover classification, marine water quality monitoring, and urban surface characteristics.

PolyU has a strong focus on remote sensing-related research and has been dedicated to the development of smart cities. The collaboration with HKATG aligns with their goal of advancing technological research and development in aerospace technology and satellite navigation. The partnership will also contribute to nurturing future talent in the field of aerospace technology and fostering the growth of new industries.

The joint efforts between PolyU and HKATG aim to leverage their expertise to enhance research, innovation, and education in aerospace technology, while also addressing societal needs and contributing to the transformation and development of Hong Kong’s future industries.
